Hathras gang rape barbaric and shameful: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday termed the gang-rape, assault and murder of a 19-year-old woman in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh as “barbaric and shameful”.

“There is no word to condemn the barbaric and shameful incident from a young Dalit girl in Hathras. My deepest condolences to the family .., Ms. Banerjee said on social media.

He also said, “More embarrassing is the forced funeral without the presence or consent of the family, who expose those using slogans and lofty promises to vote.”

Earlier, the Trinamool Congress leadership expressed concern over the crime. Party MP and party’s youth wing president Abhishek Banerjee called the incident an “unforgivable crime”.

“An undeserving crime was committed in # Hathras under the reign of @Anandermodi ji and he was silent. After 15 days of fighting to survive, the girl dies and now @Uppolice has disrespected her remains! #Modyspeak U4 Dudlits If there is any humanity left in you, Mr. Abhishek Banerjee tweeted on Wednesday.
